Free Social Event for PSMG members: A Young Photographer in Old Beijing: An in-person talk with pictures.

Mon, 13 Oct 2025 18:00 - 20:00

SOAS University of London, 10 Thornhaugh Street, London WC1H 0XG

This event is in support of Patrick Dransfield one of PSMG’s Asian friends and affiliates with the evening being sponsored by SOAS University of London

"Beijing 1968: Through the lens of wanderlust – Join Patrick as he captures a China on the brink of change"

In this talk, Patrick Dransfield will share highlights from the 800+ archive; his thoughts on art and also doing business with Chinese people in the context of these unique images of a China in transition.

In the Summer of 1986, Patrick was living with an old Chinese Professor of Chemistry and his artist wife in north Beijing. He’d acquired a second-hand twin periscope Seagull camera and proceeded to record the street scenes he encountered on his long cycle rides between Peking University and the Newsweek office in west Beijing.

“We are all the luckier for seeing these pictures through the deeply empathetic lens that Patrick M Dransfield brought to Beijing in 1986.” Professor Rana Mitter OBE FBA, ST Lee Chair in US-Asia Relations at the Harvard Kennedy School.

The 2025 PSMG Full Day London Summit Thriving in an age of continuous reinvention

The 2025 PSMG Full Day London Summit: Thriving in an age of continuous reinvention

Tue, 11 Nov 2025 08:00 - 17:30

Venue: One Moorgate Place, London, EC2R 6EA

We will be adding to the conference overview in due course to take into account exciting new research

Research from PwC last year, conducted amongst almost 5000 global CEOs, revealed 45% doubt their companies will survive another decade on their current trajectory. Technological disruption, geo-political pressures, and evolving workforce dynamics are accelerating the need for transformation.

Significant change will only succeed if there is a workforce primed and ready to make it work, with the right structure, culture and skills in place. CEOs must align their business roadmap for change with a plan to develop, acquire and motivate the talent needed.

In addition, PwC’s Annual Law Firms’ Survey 2024 “Innovate, adapt, protect: A blueprint for sustained growth” reported that firms are acutely aware of the potential impact of continuing market uncertainty, with approximately 55% of Top 100 firms stating that they are extremely or somewhat concerned about macroeconomic volatility and geopolitical instability.

Professional services firms are also focused on the speed of technological change, with just over 50% of Top 100 firms being extremely or somewhat concerned that this will stop them meeting future ambitions.

Use of generative AI (GenAI) continues to gather pace, with the potential for significant productivity savings and commercial opportunities. However, some mid-tier law firms are concerned about the potential impact of GenAI on pricing and client demand.

The survey also highlighted the need for firms to address wider productivity and growth challenges and to embrace innovation, undertake transformation of operating models and rethink the size and shape of the future workforce.

At the same time, greater resilience will be needed against a complex risk landscape that ranges from cyber-attacks and geopolitical instability to the impact of climate change and ESG expectations.

The role of Marketing and Business Development will, therefore, be crucial in steering the resilience and reinvention required of both internal and external stakeholders, together with the adoption of future skills essential for ourselves and our teams to prosper, whilst operating in an increasingly complex environment.

The 2025 PSMG Annual London Summit is your opportunity to explore the critical theme of reinvention—a challenge facing every business in today’s rapidly shifting landscape.

Some key themes of this year's summit will be:-

Navigating Continuous Change – How firms are reshaping business models to stay relevant.

Unlocking Competitive Advantage – The strategies leading firms are using to thrive.

Harnessing Generative AI – The opportunities and risks of AI-driven transformation.

Workforce & Leadership Evolution – Engaging employees in change and upskilling for the future.

An exciting period of opportunity awaits us – let’s grab it with both hands!

Workshop 2

"The 4 Stages of the Meeting"

Limited virtual places available

How do you conduct that all important meeting? Whether with clients or other important stakeholders, moving relationships forward at meetings is about getting what you want, to be sure.

But achieving that depends on your ability to create rapport, ask the right questions, pitch effectively and ask for what you want. All elegantly of course, paying close attention to the personality and social style of your stakeholder – whether in the room or online.

In this session you will receive a simple but powerful route map to prepare for and conduct more effective meetings and in particular we will look at:

  • Making an impact: you never get a second chance to make a first impression. How everything from your background to your posture matters.
  • Likeability and building rapport: attending to small talk
  • Uncovering needs: asking the right questions and listening
  • Demonstrating capabilities: presenting and articulating a compelling message
  • Closing: handling objections and getting an advance - moving things forward
  • Attending to the practicalities of running the meeting: ensuring everyone has a fair chance to speak
  • Action planning
