The PSMG Full Day London Summit - "The Environmental, Social and Governance Movement”

27 Apr 2022 08:00 - 17:30

Venue: One America Square Conference Centre, 17, One Crosswall, America Square, London EC3N 2LB

Once a firm establishes an ESG framework, metrics need to be put in place, measured on a regular basis, and progress shared publicly with proper and transparent governance being evidenced.  Otherwise, the accusation of “greenwashing” will be a real threat.

Millennials care deeply that the companies they work for (and the businesses they support) embrace values that are aligned with their own, and environmental and societal impact is extremely important to them.

Employees who are passionate about their employer demonstrably strengthen the brand and ultimately improve the overall productivity of the workforce.

As millennials, in particular, become employees, consumers, and investors, they take note of corporations that act well and reward them with such patronage and loyalty.

They are (and will become) our clients and are continually seeking wise advice and counsel!

The General Counsel is, therefore, one of the few executives who has the ability and responsibility to influence all areas of ESG and who sit at the intersection of organisational purpose, environmental stewardship, leadership, strategy, governance and ethics.

Their voice is clear and strong on all matters of ESG with many of our clients breaking the mould and moving beyond corporate social responsibility to social impact and innovation.

They view societal needs as opportunities to develop ideas and demonstrate business technologies, to find and serve new markets, and to solve longstanding business problems.

We must ensure we listen to them if we wish to retain competitive advantage.

For many years now the future of professional services has been undergoing a profound change so, once again, we need to ask how can we, in business development and marketing, be instrumental in driving the direction of a more holistic ESG perspective needed within our firms and develop the knowledge and core skills required?

Corporate social responsibility is not just about managing, reducing and avoiding risk, it is about creating opportunities, generating improved performance, making money and leaving the risks far behind."

Sunil Misser, Head of Global Sustainability Practice, PwC

The transition to net zero carbon emissions is the challenge of our lifetime. With ESG top of the corporate agenda, the role of professional advisors has never been more critical for business, humanity and the planet.

But tackling your own carbon footprint is just the beginning. How can you steer your firm’s journey from a sustainable firm to a sustainability firm – maximising your positive impact by enabling your clients to accelerate their net zero transition. And what is the role of marketing and business development in leading change?

6. Edward Dallas, Director of Analysis, Simetrica-Jacobs

"Mapping out the S of your approach to ESG"

How can firms understand the different aspects of their social impact?  What stakeholder groups are they affecting and what actions are they taking that have impact? How can firms move beyond thinking about just the actions that they take to really evaluating and potentially valuing the impact that they have?

In this session, we will explore how firms can map out their social impact and push towards defining metrics that help them to measure their impact over time.  We will also discuss how understanding the value of our impact can help shape our strategy and allow us to deliver impact more effectively.
