This pre-eminent elite law firm works with clients in the world’s most dynamic industries and support clients wherever they want to do business. The firm takes pride in its reputation as a forward-thinking organisation which retains a strong collegiate culture and is an energetic and dynamic place in which to work.

This is a high-profile international position, reporting at board level and managing a sizeable team. The person in this role will work closely with National Managing Partners, as well as local and international practice heads and sector leaders. It will take international responsibility for the firm's approach to business development and marketing including the development and management of the firm's brand, the provision of an appropriate marketing infrastructure and continued improvement of the firm's business development, client relationship management and sector strategy.

The role has many dimensions but will include:
• Providing inspirational leadership to the international team; developing skills and capabilities that will ensure service excellence to clients (internal and external); and ensuring the services being delivered by the function are best in class
• Working with the national Managing Partners to consider and develop plans for greater integration and alignment between regional and local business development resources
• Working with the international business development team to create and implement strategies for business development at an international and local level for practice areas and industry groups
• Leading the firm's global client relationship programme to identify the clients with the greatest potential for international growth and work to create an "account management culture" with appropriate client satisfaction programmes
• Acting as a custodian of the Firm’s brand, ensuring international understanding and working with communications colleagues to oversee brand strategy implementation; ensure positive brand recognition and reputation within key industries and geographies; and overseeing the firm's international internal and external communications strategies
• Developing and adopting a "lifecycle approach" to pitches through a comprehensive review of opportunities, development of materials, training of lawyers and a system for debriefing with clients.

The successful candidate will possess the following characteristics:
• Professional service-based or partnership experience.
• Experience of marketing internationally, with knowledge of the legal markets in which the firm operates and sensitive to the cultural differences which exist on a Pan-European basis.
• A naturally confident leader and strategic thinker able to assess the firm's future needs, align business development initiatives accordingly and come forward with creative ideas and approaches
• A track record of successful leadership and management of high-performing international teams. .
• An ability to operate and succeed in a fast-paced highly intellectual, multi-tasking, client-service orientated environment and resolve issues in a controlled and calm fashion
• Excellent communication skills with fluency in English, both written and spoken. Additional language skills (German or French) would be an advantage.
