We are currently working on a great opportunity for a Head of Business Development & Marketing to lead the business development strategy and support for a leading global law firm based in the Johannesburg. This is a newly created role which reports directly into the CEO who is based in South Africa and the Global Head of Clients & Markets who is based in London. The firm already has an established marketing & business development team and this role will be responsible for the direction and oversight of the firm’s strategic business development & marketing function in South Africa.

In terms of key responsibilities for this role, you will have direct responsibility for driving the development and execution of competitive business development, marketing and communication strategies and policies that aim to generate business leads, expand existing client relationships, raise the profile of the firm in the marketplace, as well as drive cross-selling opportunities across the office and the wider firm. You will be responsible for providing strategic focus for the firm’s core practices which will include keeping up to date with market developments, competitors, practice, industry and product development. You will be responsible for ensuring that the firm’s offering is cohesive across the region and you will manage the regional BD team. You will also take responsibility for creating and driving a media relations and profile raising plan and directing the development for a key group of clients with the aim of increasing revenue and broadening relationships across the firm.

In order to successfully apply for this role, you need to have extensive business development experience which has been ideally gained within Sub- Saharan Africa. You will need to have previous international experience and have had prior exposure to cross-border projects, issues and communication. You will need to be able to demonstrate strong team management and be commercially astute with a strong track record in growing existing and new business.
