ORCL: don’t over-declare – or exaggerate – your lobbying role

The head of the Office the Registrar of Consultant Lobbyists (ORCL) has called on organisations involved in lobbying – including professional service firms – not to overdeclare their involvement in the process, where no direct communications with key government representatives has occurred.

Speaking ORCL’s annual stakeholder event in London in February, ORCL registrar Alison White said: “over declaration is not a good thing”. The lobbying legislation did not require “transparency” or “erring on the side of caution” – phrases she said she had heard many times when meeting with registrants.
